Five Field Kono is a traditional abstract strategy board game that originated in Japan and is now played all over the world. The game is played on a rectangular board with five columns and six rows. Each player has ten stones, and the objective of the game is to capture all of the opponent's stones or immobilize them so they cannot move.
The game begins with both players placing their stones in the first row of their side of the board. The player with white stones moves first, and turns alternate after that.
Players move their stones either horizontally or vertically to a vacant space adjacent to them, but not diagonally. A stone cannot move to a space occupied by another stone, including the opponent's, nor can it move off the board.
If a stone is moved to a space that is adjacent to an opponent's stone, the opponent's stone is captured by sandwiching it between two of your stones. This is done by moving one of your stones to occupy the space on the other side of the opponent's stone.
