Dominoes is a game of skill and strategy that originated in China and is now enjoyed worldwide. The game is played with a set of rectangular tiles, each divided into two squares and marked with dots or blank spaces. The number of dots on each square varies from one to six, and there are 28 tiles in a standard set.
To begin a game of dominoes, each player draws a certain number of tiles, usually seven, and the remaining tiles are placed face down in a pile or boneyard. The player with the highest double tile (with the same number of dots on both squares) goes first, and the game proceeds clockwise.
Players take turns playing one tile at a time, matching the number of dots on one square of their tile to the number of dots on an open end of any tile on the playing surface. A tile can only be played if it can be placed legally, meaning that the sum of the dots on each end of the tile must match the sum of the dots on the adjacent tile. If a player cannot make a legal play, they must draw from the boneyard until they can.
